Tarmac Roads & Private Road Surfacing

We surface private roads, shared accesses, estate roads, farm tracks and unadopted streets in hot-laid tarmac right across central Scotland — Glasgow, Edinburgh, Livingston, Airdrie, Coatbridge, Paisley, Hamilton and everywhere within roughly fifty miles of our Lanarkshire yard.
Roads are not driveways. They carry delivery vans, bin lorries, tractors and, on estates, constant turning traffic. We build them to take it: excavation to formation, geotextile membrane, deeper compacted MOT type 1, a binder course and a dense wearing course rolled hot, with kerbing, gullies and correct falls so water leaves the carriageway instead of sitting in it.
Why choose TK Driveways for tarmac roads & road surfacing
Built to a road specification
Deeper sub-base, heavier binder course and 6mm or 10mm wearing course rolled with a proper roller — designed for vans, HGVs and agricultural traffic, not just cars.
Drainage designed in
Gullies, channel drains, cross-falls and soakaways are set out before a single load of stone arrives, because standing water is what destroys a road surface in a Scottish winter.
Phased so the road stays open
For factored streets, farms and business parks we work in sections, with evening and weekend working available so residents and deliveries keep access throughout.
How we install tarmac roads & road surfacing
Survey and specification
We measure the road, assess the existing formation and traffic loading, then issue a written specification with layer depths and drainage detailed line by line.
Excavation, formation and drainage
Failed material is dug out and tipped, the formation is proof-rolled, membrane and MOT type 1 go in and are compacted in layers, and gullies or channels are set to level.
Binder, wearing course and edges
A heavy binder course is laid and rolled, then the wearing course, with kerbs or haunched edges holding the carriageway and any lining or markings applied at the end.
